Byron Thomas

Council District 2

Councilman Byron Thomas is a native of North Augusta, South Carolina. While at North Augusta High School, he was not only Student Body President but also worked with the Earth Day Network and SC Solar Council to turn his school into a National Green/Solar School.

Councilman Thomas ran college track at the University of South Carolina–Beaufort, where he made All-Conference and the All-Conference Academic Team. After transferring to the University of South Carolina, he formed the Gamecock Pageant Organization (GPO). GPO now hosts the Miss Gamecock scholarship pageant and sends its winner to the Miss South Carolina pageant to represent USC. In seven years, they’ve awarded over $21,000 in scholarships and cash prizes to women at the University of South Carolina.

After graduating from USC with a degree in Public Relations and a minor in Political Science, he moved to Cayce to work for U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson, and is currently the Director of Outreach.Councilman Thomas has been an Ambassador for the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, and is the first ever Board Chairman of the Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce Cares Foundation. Councilman Thomas was also appointed to the City of Cayce Events Committee before joining the Council.

Most importantly, Councilman Thomas is newly married to the love of his life, his butterfly, Mrs. Rebecca Thomas, and they are members of River District Church. Councilman Thomas will work hard to make sure the “C” in Cayce stands for Community!
