See City of Cayce’s Recycling UpdatesTuesday, October 1, 2019
This week a flyer is being placed on residential roll carts detailing changes in what items are accepted in your recycling bin for City curbside pick-up. After much discussion and research, the City recently made the decision to no longer accept glass as a recyclable item due to the increased cost per ton incurred by the City. The cost associated with recycling has increased 260% within the past 12 months. Glass constitutes a substantial share of the tonnage collected by the City of Cayce. Therefore eliminating its collection would greatly reduce the amount of tonnage thus reducing the City’s overall costs.
This is a growing national trend. City Staff will closely watch the market and keep residents informed should the circumstances change, as the City strives to be as environmentally conscious as possible, while always mindful of the cost to our citizens.
We encourage our residents to take glass items directly to any of the 11 Lexington County Collection and Recycling Centers or to the Edmund Landfill located at 3241 Charleston Highway. As a second option, you can also dispose of glass along with your household garbage. If you do, please make sure to bag it. Thank you!
